A Plague Upon Both Your Houses!!

Sometimes Ben likes to show off his manliness. In the video, he starts with some good old fashion head banging on the register, followed closely by a floor-burn inducing forehead wheelbarrow and adds a face-dive into a play toy as a coup de grace. All without so much as a sniffle. Manfully done my son.

Unfortunately, no matter how much you prove to yourself you're a man, you're still susceptible to the forces of nature...or the forces of modern medicine as the case may be.

Ben's uncle Jake was stricken with some sort of viral or bacterial eye infection, thus forcing us to invoke a "Duffy Embargo" until the taint has been lifted. The Duffy grandparents, quarantined with Jake, are taking the Ben withdrawal particularly hard. However, as soon as the eye is clear, trade (of Ben) will resume.

In the meantime, Ben felt the first of many backstabs by modern medicine when he was hit with an extremely high fever and The Pox! a week after his shots. The pox are just superficial, meaning there is no itching, but Ben can barely stand to see himself in the mirror...and he refuses to leave the house without a touch of mom's cover up.

The fever was the real problem. Beth, Ben and I were pretty much up till 3:30 am on Friday night/saturday morning dealing with it. He was a baby ball of sweat, snot and saliva wrapped up in jammers and a sleep sack. We tried several combos of outfits, but what finally worked was just the fleece jammers. The poor little guy lost so much fluid that he drank 2 4oz bottles of whole milk in a row at around 1am I think, and then another 6oz bottle when he woke up at 7:30am.

His fever has pretty much been either low or non-existent since Friday night, but, despite that, he didn't have very good naps yesterday (Saturday). We still managed to make it through most of the zoo (despite forgetting the stroller), where Ben was impressively unimpressed with the animals.

The monkeys in particular, who were abnormally active, failed to catch his attention in the slightest. In fact, his favorite part of the zoo by far was the part most devoid of all animals: the play area. A close second was any waterfall we went by.

I'm writing all this as Ben has his first nap of the day on Easter Sunday (He is Risen!), and so far it's a pretty good nap (slightly past 2 hours so far, his norm for naps), which is great and a bit out of the ordinary since he was due for milk an hour and a half ago.

Once he's up, milk, solids, then off to Grandpama Anderson's place for Easter lunch!
