By popular request, my mother, here is Ben how he has been most of this week. He has been fed, changed, burped and pacified (several times, but he spit it out every time). He has been rocked, walked, wrapped, warmed, cooled and sung to. His temper is a fortress, impervious to assault.
And yet...
As of Thursday, he's been a little better. Still not great, but a little.
Saturday night, Beth and I went out for dinner while Grandma and Grandpa Duffy watched Ben. We knew he would cry, and warned them, but tried not to think about it as we consumed some delicious Ginza.
When we came back to pick up Ben, we found him staring peacefully up at Dave and sucking quietly on his nook. My first thought was, "Are you kidding me!?"
I wasn't really angry or anything, but I was barely, just barely, disappointed in his perfect behavior. It makes you feel like a bad parent (just for a minute) when he behaves so well for someone else and almost never like that for you.
On the up side, it lets you see him as a cute little quiet baby again and reminds you what a great little guy he is on the whole.
Ben has been better though yesterday and today, so hopefully this is a new trend on the rise.

Oh Ben, doesn't dad know anything? Of course you are crying in this video - your poor little legs are cold, aren't they honey? And you must feel abandoned on that hard scratchy couch. Tsk, Tsk. And Grandma A knows that you want to be on your best behaivor when you are with your grandparents. It's important later on ...when you start begging us for candy, toys, etc.
Love, Grandma A
If someone had my hands sewn up in my sleeves, I wouldn't be too happy either. And mom is right- isn't it about time to put a sheet cover on that relic of a couch? Honestly, did that come from someone's front yard on campus circa Aug. 14?
Warm apartment and my third arm was busy making a pancake so I had to put him down to video tape him. Weird huh?
And [rich uncle] jo, we are gladly taking donations if you feel like buying us a nice new soft couch. =)
