Now Ben's gassiness may certainly be a factor, but lately we've had trouble keeping Ben asleep. The most "routine" that we've been able to muster, is Beth nursing him. That's it. After that it's a crap-shoot. Either he gets moved to his crib and miraculously stays asleep, or, and this is the more likely situation, he gets moved to his crib, wakes up during the move, and yells at us for moving him in the first place.
Against all doctor recommendations, we've tried keeping him in the bed and not moving him after he eats. In this unlikely situation, I am the safety monitor. I clear to the left and right of him, secure the drop zone with a pillow wall, and place a barrier between him and beth consisting of a boppy pillow. This way, Beth can just scooch over and sleep, and Ben doesn't have to be moved. Brilliant, right? Ya well, he's not a quiet sleeper. Every time he makes a little grunt or squawks his baby squawk, Beth wakes up a little.
So, when he's done eating, and has been changed, and burped, that's when daddy takes over. The clock is ticking till the next feeding, so daddy has to make sure that mommy can get some sleep in the meantime. This means that I have to keep the little dude quiet at a minimum and sleeping if at all possible.
White noise is key, so my first option is rocking Ben in my arms by the sink. If I can get the bassinet out of the bedroom without waking Beth, I'll put Ben in it by the sink, and if I can't get it out safely, I put a blanket on the floor and lay him on it. With any luck he sleeps, with no luck, he usually stays awake but quiet for a bit.
If he's still crying, I try the rocker. I believe that the amount of rocking I have been doing lately has replaced the jump roping I haven't been able to do (due to weather, not time), I felt quite quick and springy at the last open gym (volleyball).
After that, I try laying on the couch with him on my chest.
After that I've recently added a new trick. I use the T.V. static as white noise and lay him down by it.
If all this fails, and he continues making the I'm hungry fish-face, I warm up a bottle so Beth can try to get as close to 3 hours straight as possible.

I don't see what the problem is. I keep looking at these last pictures that were posted and Ben looks absolutely serene. I think you guys are imagining that he is cranky. That's okay, it's due to lack of sleep and being new parents. Love,
Grandma A.
It's hard to hold a camera with one parent trying to sleep and the other holding a crying infant...we'll leave him with you for a day, and you tell me how that imagination thing is working out for you!
Besides, who wants to see pictures of a cranky baby?
